Boureminati on the Niger.

Time: 6:00 am. I watched the sunrise while collecting shellfish, spying on a couple of kingfishers, following the bee-eaters in and out of their lairs in the clay riverbanks and admiring the Dum palm trees. At 7:00 am, we set off along a long tract of the river. The fishermen pointed out a family of hippopotami that were grazing amongst the rice fields.
